Abstract
Background: Pathogen resources are considered to be essential materials for vaccine development, diagnostic marker searching, and research of disease mechanisms. Because the Nagoya Protocol has limited the international movement of pathogen resources, it has become difficult to secure pathogen resources in Korea, particularly, viral pathogens. In this task, we secured and deposited domestic viral resources which held clinical and genetic information.

Methodology: This task was approved by the Institutional Review Board; the requirement for informed consent was waved because of the retrospective nature of the task. We cultured previously isolated viruses using conventional or shell vial culture technologies, and collected clinical information about the patients. The cultured viruses were semi-quantified with real-time RT-PCR and were genotyped by sequencing analysis.

Results: Through this task, we were able to collect and secure a total of 66 viral isolates of 7 viruses, to be given to the National Culture Collection for Pathogens. These viral pathogens were expected to be used as raw materials for vaccine development, diagnostic marker searching, and the research of disease mechanisms.
